Also may be of interest: if I set either laptop or external monitor to a
non-native resolution, I do get a dropdown for the screen set to non-
native resolution and can change the resolution in g-c-c.

Hi Daniel, yes I was going to resort to that if necessary. Thanks!
One comment though, I found that the setting was not even saved before I
switched to Fvwm.
I had to redo the mouse speed each time I logged into an Ubuntu session.

In twinkle, if you select the "manual" entry in the "help" menu, the
browser opens the page twinklephone.com, which obviously is not (or no
longer) under control of the twinkle developers. The page displays
"Reviews for the Best Rated P4 Extenders" etc., not suitable for minor

It should also do stuff like mount /proc and cat /proc/cmdline and tell
you secure boot state and such from inside the kernel.
