Joseph's device is a regression in intel-microcode package. While I
don't have enough info to determine whether bug 1853369 actually shares

I've been using the mainline kernel (5.4.5, specifically) for a few
weeks with no instability; I switched back to the -proposed kernel ~a
week ago and I've since seen this issue recur. The version I saw this
recur on was 5.4.0-13-generic (and I'm now on -14 as a result of the
forced reboot).

I don't know what the way forward is to resolve this issue. While
upstream qemu has added some new CPU models, "Skylake-Client-noTSX-
IBRS", "Skylake-Server-noTSX-IBRS", etc, libvirt has not. If I do add
these to libvirt, we will need to carry them forward as a delta to
upstream possibly forever.
With mawk 1.3.4.20200120-1 being uploaded to Debian testing now I
suggest to mark this bug here as invalid and just sync the new mawk
version to Focal. There is a separate bug for just updating mawk

Confirm that problem rise with kernel 4.15.0.55 (is LTS, supported till
2022).
Locked kernel update to 4.15.0 54 for now, which is enough for normal use.

My brother has apparently been having the same problem on his computer.
I hadn't realized it when I submitted my bug. For him, he has an ICH8
family of chipsets.
The following works for him, and the problem goes away while accessing his

Thanks for the diagnostic command. It works ok in my local network,
could it be something to do with the way you're configuring your
hostname? Perhaps it would help if you could explain how you're
configuring your system, or show a test case that demonstrates the
problem in a vanilla lxc containe

needed the i386 binaries resuscitated which is now done.

I also want add that I've tested a manually compiled biosdevname v0.7.2
on our oldest hardware, HP Proliant G6 and our newest Dell PE Gen 14.
Intel, Mellanox and Broadcom cards. All works. It would be awesome if
next Ubuntu release got biosdevname v0.7.2 instead of a patched v0.4.1.
