I was able to patch this locally on my machine by changing the two calls
to get_ds() in the bcmwl source package to KERNEL_DS as outlined in that
commit. Patched deb installed and working on my machine. Will work on

Some observations:
* growpart uses sfdisk without --no-tell-kernel option, meaning that it does
notify kernel about partition changes
* growpart later calls partx, which may be redundant / cause no changes or
events
* as a side note, partprobe, blockdev --rereadpt can also be used to reread
part
@ddstreet You systemd builds in the PPA fix the issue for me on Bionic
and Disco, IPv6 MTU is applied after reboot with the configuration.

So, update-grub is only run if you have it there. Can you remove it, if
it's not supported/installed on disk at all? Otherwise, how does it
fail? Can you add a log for that?
I see how the version that I have on the ppa would still fail postinst
if update-grub is failing, so installation would stil

Is the fix going to be available in Eoan? I can confirm that setting
DICPATH works, but it'd be nice to have that handled automatically.

1. upgrade-grub is part of the original image which we take as is from
canonical. We do not change the original image, but install packages as needed.
2. As per initial work done making it dep instead of most does not work.

Additional thought on my scenario ... I was also working in a duel
monitor mode when gnome crashed. In my case Thunderbird was on my
primary monitor, and the thunderbird dialog came up on my secondary
monitor. Interacting with this dialog is when gnome crashes.
