I've tested Ubuntu Studio Bionic Beaver 18.04, and since it receives all the
same updates from default Ubuntu, the results were identical.
As to disco dingo, I really prefer to go with the more polished LTS versions as
a personal choice of mine.

The latest I experienced of this bug, all I have to do is click on
**show applications** ( 9 dots ) icon to get rid of the freeze. Looks
like not necessary to click on the search box or type a letter in it.

By the way. I went to linux kernel 5.2.1 ideapad_laptop.c and now
there's no no_hw_rfkill_list. It's the opposite, now it has to be
specified if there is a hw-rfkill. So that new laptops don't get this
problem.
One option is to install a ppa with a recent kernel.

I made a dkms package that fixed the problem for 19.04 (check above).

On 19.04/19.10 some application doesn't have global menu. Like evolution
& seahorse.
After discussion on community I found out that installed unity from
netboot image and thus GTK_MODULES env is not set. It gets set after
installing libatk-adaptor which fixes the issue.
