Sorry for not having figuring it out by myself, in previous versions of
Ubuntu I needed to have it set it that way. Removing nomodeset from the
kernel parameter worked. I only made it from grub editor when booting,
but I'll introdce the change permanently.
This is still on our "would be nice to get it" list.
There is no huge business case for it yet, but as UEFI grows this would be
useful.
Furthermore Debian now recommends that, so that will soon become Delta to be
maintained.
For all of that giving this a (slight) bump would be nice.

Sorry, this is so old that I've forgotten what it was about and the
circumstances. Also, I never understood the issues. I have since upgraded
to 18.04 and then to 18.04.1. I've also gotten out of the habit of
reporting such things. I will start reporting them again.

Hi Konstantin,
The fix for this issue has been submitted as a kernel SRU request and
will be considered for the next SRU cycle. If it's accepted, a kernel
build with the fix will be available in -proposed on the week between
14-Jan - 18-Jan, and released on -updated by 31-Jan.
