Hi Daniel. The backlight keys do not help.
Prior to the kernel version in question, Ubuntu 17.x and 18.x on this
machine had occasional backlight problems on waking from suspend that I
could resolve by closing the lid, waiting a few seconds and reopening
the lid.
As far as I can tell, this doesn'

Thanks to a member of the BrlTTY mailing list, my problem is solved. It
seems that the default authorization of BrltTTY under Ubuntu was no
longer working. Providing it with a dummy key-file was enough to get it
back to work - instantly.
The display came back to life immediately after these steps:
Did it ever work at all in 18.04? Do you suppose a recent update broke
it?
Next, maybe try installing a very new kernel to see if that makes it more
stable:

I'm not sure how netplan can fix this - it looks like it's generating
pretty sensible configuration files.

If I use in /lib/systemd/system/ufw.service:
-Before=network.target
+After=network.target
ufw starts without errors, so there seem to be dependencies in the
network.target, that are not allowing ufw-init-functions to complete
successfully.
