OK, after installing a fresh copy of Ubuntu 18.04 and executing exactly
the steps mentioned here I managed to get to a state where you are. Non-
GL apps work with optirun, GL apps throw BadMatch (invalid parameter
attributes) error. So I'll wait until the bug you opened is solved. Then
we will see.
The log shows that DHCP requests timeout, are you sure the wifi you are
trying to connect to is working? It looks like an infrastructure issue
rather than an Ubuntu bug

for editing, and add this line:

And no, it's not a regression. Ubuntu (or GNOME) has never had a more

drivers. The screen brightness is always at 100%.
Please DON'T enable wayland by default on fresh installations or updates
because it's not 100% compatible with nvidia proprietary drivers.

Whereas the previous fix definitely fixed it (at least for me) on 17.10,
it's indeed broken (again, in a somewhat different way: it's smaller
now, 48x48) for me too on 18.04.
I'll try to take yet another look.

Using the newest driver files of the Windows driver and putting
(overwriting) them into the /lib/firmware/qca directory seems to help.
