restore-new-distro option has not worked for lots of people for quite

ramfs; but keep the 4.4 kernel. This would allow us to test the
initramfs code vs. the hardware. If 4.4 + cloud-initramfs-tools 0.40

solved the problem or reduced its occurrence to the level where it is no

Got right on it! Tested your PPA version on the same testcases and it
works perfectly. Indeed the same issue and the same type of resolution.

I have noticed the same thing. I am running on 16.04 with the HWE 17.10 kernel
and monitor works.
I installed the bionic 4.14.0-17 kernel and I was able to still use the laptop
display. I tried the latest Bionic kernel (4.15.0-13) and it does not work.

Original reporter here. I am willing to assist wherever I can, but I
reported chiefly because I cannot debug or investigate of my own.
Regarding the cheese issue, the exact same issue arises when just using
uvcvideo, so it is definitely something passed on from the driver.
