system should be able to boot now. Could you please verify the fix for
this bug again with the latest Artful kernel on -proposed?

I can confirm that the recent netboot kernel (4.13.0-32-generic from Jan
25th) and initrd have indeed fixed this and unattended installs are
functioning again with preseed.

Verified that latest Trusty, Xenial and Artful kernels build on
canonica-kernel-team/ppa has urgency=medium on the changelog.

Note: since 5.7.3+dfsg-1.4 a native systemd file is used which uses type=simple
and MAINPID tracking.
So >= Artful this is already fixed.
