Yes, downgrading to nvidia drivers 304.137 does work. However, I have some
other issues (tearing in videos) with drivers 304.137.
The alternative is to keep nvidia drivers 340, and to downgrade the
kernel to 4.4.0-109: nvidia drivers 340 work fine with kernel 4.4.0-109.

I had to take out the laptop HDD and connect it to my desktop. I then

I seem to have the same problem on Ubuntu 17.10,
firefox-57.0.4+build1-0ubuntu0.17.10.1. I get random crashes about twice
a day. The crash is usually accompaigned by a gnome-shell crash &
restart. I observe no suspicios activity such as eating up too much RAM
or a high CPU usage before the crash.
While running the commands that triggers the server hang I see a bunch
of connects, but the same is true for the working walks.
Once that is triggered snmpd falls into a busy loop (I'd assume some
sort of spinning deadlock / infinite loop)

After latest update, keyboard autorepeat has stopped working. I can
confirm that the problem is related to the peaq-wmi module having been
recently whitelisted as using modprobe to remove peaq-wmi fixes the
problem.
Workaround: Blacklist the peaq-wmi module

I can confirm that the steps in the bug description, helped me to solve
the BIOS issue. I finally was able to replace my old small SSD for a
brand new 500GB. I am very very happy.

I can confirm Virtualbox 5.2 from virtualbox.org also works with linux-
hwe 4.13.0-29.32~16.04.1 from ppa:canonical-kernel-team/pti which fixes
Spectre with IBRS/IBPB.
And I hope Virtualbox implements IBRS/IBPB path through to also allow
Spectre protection in vms.
