Actually it matters if commit d9018976cdb6 is missing with this
particular BIOS/system because every time you boot the system, the BIOS
resets to default when it finds BCR register is changed. This is
different issue than the CMP=1 issue most of the users have reported.

show that now who has managed to install Ubuntu onto the laptop cannot get the
touchpad working. I have tried v4.15 with no luck.

This seemed to work for me, but it shouldn’t be necessary.
Workaround (2) For Laptops if Printscreen is combined with Sysreq:
sudo sysctl -w kernel.sysrq=1 #disables magic sysreq for that session
I also have the same problem:

yes, Zesty has the same issue, and apparently bionic too.
FTR I've tried the v4.14.12 one from the mainline PPA and it behaves the same.
I'll give v4.9 a try too.

After upgrading linux-generic-hwe-16.04 to 4.13.0.26.46 I get a black screen
with nouveau.
Previously I was running 4.10.0-42-generic, and that kernel still works fine.

Hi, maybe this helps something
Someone mentioned on other forums that maybe Hans de Goede's patch (
https://patchwork.kernel.org/patch/10046575/ ) could fix that problem,
but unfortunately it does not, i compiled a kernel which contains his fix but
it does not solve the problem.

Uploaded protobuf to the Xenial SRU queue. I fixed some things from your
diff:
- Added (LP: #xxx) to the changelog so that it's linked to this bug
- Added --with python3 in debian/rules. Without this we don't get the right
python3 dependencies on the pkg.
- Dropped the add-python3.patch fil
