Impact: Many users are reporting issues with bios corruption with 17.10.
This seems to stem from enabling the intel-spi-* drivers in the kernel,
which don't appear to be ready for use on end-user machines.
Fix: Disable this driver.

While waiting for any one of you guys to return, I'm going to go ahead
and test out the upstream kernel by downloading below files,
linux-headers-4.15.0-041500rc4_4.15.0-041500rc4.201712172330_all.deb
linux-headers-4.15.0-041500rc4-generic_4.15.0-041500rc4.201712172330_amd64.deb
linux-image-4.15.0
OK, I've run tests now. The system did not crash or otherwise misbehave,
but the dmesg output was quite verbose, and included "error -19"
messages. Here's a sample (apparently for just one CPU core; this
sequence was repeated quite a few times):

In https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-

To my horror, it posted "org.gnome.shell command-history" and "favorites" in

After reading all these comments, me too, etc. etc. This is what fixed
