Reviewing the files from your upgrade attempt you seem to have enabled a
PPA that provides Xorg packages. This will prevent the upgrade as that
PPA contains different versions of packages essential to Ubuntu
It looks as if I solved it by reconfiguring input settings from within
gnome ("Eingabemethoden" / im-config). But I really don't know what
happened nor why initial login, gnome, gnome-terminal and login after
suspend use different keyboard settings / configurations.
So maybe it's not a bug, but th

I was able to install Ubuntu 17.04 within a VirtualBox 5.20.0
environment and indeed the bug stands instantiated by that variant of
Ubuntu as well. Moreover, using the same boot into recovery mode, enter
the password in textual mode and effectuating a "resume boot" seems to

is to have a keyboard layout that displays the desired behavior
independently on the other non-correlated choi
