That's correct, when you are in an empty directory without any file
selected, it's in the disabled state which looks weird. Need fixing
(same with gedit/save with no name entered).

The error is produce because a user is not present in system.
I solve with unistall the application with this procedure:
1) sudo apt-get remove kismet
2) apt purge kismet
Then reinstall with sudo apt-get remove kismet.
Configure the application with correct user configuration and run without error
