This happened to me after I loaded a 10GB Mongo database, which took up
50% of my 16GB of memory. Even after I freed up all memory by stopping
the Mongo server, Nautilus is now broken.

[HP Pavilion 15] Inter
I was lucky and was able to pawn the computer off to another family
member with Windows installed (and I got myself an i3 based Dell that
works fine). That said, I had the computer back a month ago (to clean
out the heat sink and remove a virus - natch) and looked into it with an
external USB HDD.
Wow! Thank you! Will try it tonight and tell you all.
By the way, my apologies for spamming a little bit out there. My mouse
went nuts and I changed the Public information type a hella lots of
times. Again, sorry.

just noticed my reply to Steve's question didn't make it into the thread.. here
it is, maybe s.o. still hears me:
reason may be - or comes together whith - that the installation-program crashed
when I made the fresh install of this ubuntu version from usb. During
installation i chose efi option

I upgraded from kernel 4.4 to 4.8 on 16.04 LTS in the hope the issue
would go away. My hang is in btrfs-cleaner, not sure if this is the same
bug or not.
