I can confirm this issue on our computers running Ubuntu 16.04.2 LTS
with Xfce.
As soon as qtcreator (3.5.1+dfsg-2ubuntu2) autosave a file, Thunar
(1.6.11-0ubuntu0.16.04.1) freezes.
And also I can confirm that this behavior doesn't happen when
downgrading to Thunar version 1.6.10-2ubuntu1.

I have this problem on a system, and it *never* finishes stopping. It
prints out a bunch of "timeout" messages about stopping various disks,
then hangs forever stopping the crypt disk. I'll try to get an image of
it.

Thank you for your fast response.
I have a bootable thumb drive (Ubuntu 16.04 iso) attempting to start in
live mode to try and repair/replace my original grub (prior to slow down).
When I attempted a boot from the usb drive (several times) it went straight
to the ssd drive and booted from there.
I got now this freeze with 4.10.0-19. I'm seeing this message in syslog:
NMI watchdog: BUG: soft lockup - CPU#3 stuck for 22s! [ksmd:64]
Please see this forum message #5 and #10 just in case it may help, there
is a patch applied in 4.11 RC 6:

The usb drive was created with "Startup Disk Creator" and a new cd image

Public bug reported:
fmtlib uses cmake as it's build system and therefore provides cmake config
files for downstream projects. Those cmake config files are missing in the
ubuntu package.
This breaks e.g. kodi.
