The workaround "sudo systemctl restart network-manager.service" works
for me: it removes the up-down-arrow, and gives back the beam symbol
showing the available wifi networks.

The same problem here. Upgraded from 16.04 to 16.10. When using network manager
for connecting to cisco VPN (network-manager-openconnect), DNS does not work at
all. Even public domains are not resolved.

Since at leat lirc-0.9.0 this driver has been upstreamed to the kernel.
IMHO, this means that this bug should be either closed or re-assigned to
the kernel. There is no code at all handling this device in lirc these
days.

Thank you for taking the time to report this crash and helping to make
this software better. This particular crash has already been reported
and is a duplicate of bug #1568226, so is being marked as such.
The new version of lirc 0.9.4 (zesty - experimental) builds natively on
FreeBSD 10.3. It's a very different version with breaking configuration
changes, so it is not likely that these patches will apply.

I have uploaded a fix to ppa:tsimonq2/sddm-fixes for Xenial, Yakkety,
and Zesty. If this fixes it, then it can be uploaded to Zesty and we can
follow the SRU process from there for Xenial and Yakkety.
