Should make sense. Whats needed is when a window losses focus, ie. its
no longer on the top of the stack. This is the broken part.

The last working kernel that I have tested was on Ubuntu 14.04.
Problem exists with a fresh install of Ubuntu 16.04 and the issue is

times out without any further error reporting:

It worked on the same machine before the upgrade, and it still works

I know it works on c4 and m4 instance types. Those are the only other
ones I've tried. To test this kernel on r3, I'd probably have to launch
an instance on m4, upgrade the kernel from above, create a new AMI, and
try running that on r3. I'm in major crunch right now, so I can't stop
what I'm doing

This was not the case on install.
note that I have cloned the drive onto a smaller laptop and I had boot
issues because of it, so maybe CZ has some issues copying data
somewhere.But that shouldnt affect the system.

weird glitch and its been happening for some years now.

Update: there seems to be a much deeper networking problem, perhaps
introduced with kernel update 4.4.0-22. Mounting Windows shares/samba
also does not work any more. Neither does network printing. The only
things still working are ssh and sftp.
