For me this happened after upgrade from 15.04 to 15.10.
Adding suggested fix to NetworkManager.conf solved the issue.

This patch has worked for me, it definitively fixes the boot failure
with the exact same symptoms that you see; but I can't reproduce it on
225, just on (unpatched) 227; but
Actually the watershed package should not depend on initramfs-tools at
all. Removing the dependency would fix this. I created a new bug for
watershed: bug #1511669

Now it's gone back to how it was, with Ubuntu also throwing up an error
window asking if I want to report the segfault. Don't know why that
didn't happen the last couple of times even tho the segfault was in
syslog.
Summary: libimobiledevice-utils has made no difference to this fault
