Looks like we are missing some null checks in JsonCppNode. We have this
in only one of the get_node() methods but not in the other 2 overloads.
Looking at the crash report it is definitely one of the get_node()
methods attempting to dereference a null root node. I've linked a branch
to fix this.

this software better. This particular crash has already been reported
and is a duplicate of bug #1417523, so is being marked as such.
I haven't returned to the screen blanking issue yet, but I very much
doubt that it will affect screen dimming at all.
If the purpose of screen dimming is to warn you that the screen is about
to blank (giving you a chance to cancel it), then -- as Ken VanDine said
in bug 1437510 -- it should always
I don't see any eventfd() call in unity8, mir has at least two eventfd
calls.

According to alf_ it can't be mir since those eventfd calls are stored
in a Mir::Fd that takes care of closing them

I have a UX request when setting the timer. In addition to setting the
time remaining until it expires (as you'd expect), I'd like to also
switch to the ability to setting the clock time that I want it to
expire. This would be very similar to setting an alarm of course, but
