It appears that if any partitions exist on the disk at all this issues
will come up (I happened to have had an msdos partition, which differs
from the existing ext4 described by Lance).

O.K., if not maybe one "set wallpape" fixes it.
There've been Wily xserver updates to xserver - one of the xserver
updates made hashing wallpaper worse, next update now much better than
15.04.

happen. I first set my timezone, and even though the setting is set to

There is an oddity I noticed in the .debdiffs I generated: there are
/tmp/*/... files changed in the packages. From the trusty package:

As a workaround, a "bcdedit /set {bootmgr} path \EFI\ubuntu\grubx64.efi"

it may just change the "Windows Boot Manager" path in the EFI config.

Yes, it's needed. Under systemd reboot is a bit faster or behaves
differently, and causes ssh to fail. We want to orderl

The work around for this for me has been to delete the IPV4 Route that I
had configured.
After looking at some of the recommendations at
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=733296, I found a solution.
In 14.04/14.10, I originally had had to set up an IPV4 Route to get the
PPTP VPN to work.
It seems the database at http://www.hostip.info/index.html is
incomplete. I manually added my details and have not had a problem
since.
