oops, looks like I spoke too soon. The report from dmesg mentioned in my
previous comment has gone away on reboot. I believe the cause may have
been a fault in my /etc/rc.local file, which may not have been
completing. This is fixed now.

I've installed that image to another partition and played around with it
and the problem seems to not be present on that installation. I

We have begun to see a noticeable percentage of this in our Openstack-

this bug is still on in LXDE 14.04, though the latest version of
'lightdm-gtk-greeter' is present by default.
