This is still a problem in Trusty. Can someone tell us whether it's
fixed in Utopic?
The savannah bug report says fixed. What version of grub fixes it? Will
upgrading grub fix the problem in an existing installation, or is
further action required?
(Note: I'm interested in the official fix, in or
I'm running Edubuntu 14.04.1 with Gnome-shell on a 17" laptop with a 19"
monitor on the right, which is higher than the laptop (as set in display
settings). However, upon reboot, the settings put the monitor on the
left, with the laptop higher. Shouldn't this be saved to the video card?

Guys I do not understand why I do not have the problem anymore on my
ubuntu 14.04. The file icon behaves how it should be (opening all
minimized windows and middle click to open a new window). I would like
to understand what I have changed (maybe in compiz) that makes
everything fine.

I've never seen this in Utopic, only in Trusty. Additionally I've found
that if I just wait an additional 5 to 10 seconds when this appears boot
proceeds as expected with no user action required.

I was directed to this bug report by the installation of lubuntu 13.10
and lubuntu 14.04 on an IBM X40. The bug does not seem relevant, and so

I just had this happen on my Desktop running a nearly fresh (< 5 days)
install of 14.10 64bit. It has been on for 1 day and 6 hours when this
happened. Logged out, Logged in, time is back.

Looks like it is a lacking feature in the kernel: it does not perform
any translation on filenames, so if they are in some specific code page
and you want them to show up right on the terminal, then you need to
configure the terminal to display using that code page rather than utf8.
