Ok, same behaviour with the latest firmware.
I've managed to get my machine to boot now by doing the following:
- Resetting the firmware on my laptop
- Booting to a 14.04 live install
- chroot'ing in to my install
- Downgrading shim + shim-signed (to 0.4-0ubuntu4 and 1.6+0.4-0ubuntu4

I guess it's a timeout problem, because it usually happens when I'm too eager
to open the Dash right after a cold boot (those can be very long). The files
scope is quite long to come up too, but at least it comes up.

The day after upgrading Kubuntu to 14.10, KDE displayed some
notifications of updates available, I wasn't sure if from the upgrade or
something later. I clicked Muon updater and its Software Updates window
said "The software on this computer is up to date".

Ok now it seems to work most of the time on the first try (with pritty
interface). But rebooting/standby makes my screen go black and I am
unable to reactivate. I need to to do a hart reboot.
