I am experiencing this problem on Xubuntu 14.04 after an upgrade today.
I have tried all the suggestions I could find on internet , such as
reconfig/reinstall lightdm and xubuntu-desktop, clear session cache,
remove Xauthority, restart lightdm time and time again, but still cannot
work around this
Verified fix.
- Did a fresh install of Trusty on hardware and confirmed I could reproduce the
bug.
- Enabled -proposed, updated, verified I got xdg-utils 1.1.0~rc1_2ubuntu7.1 and
re-ran testcase.
- Did not get the screen blanking during fullscreen video playback in Parole.

unity8 crashed with SIGSEGV in
mir::frontend::ClientBufferTracker::cli
Have same issue too.
I removed pulseaudio, but sound still freezes randomly in browsers, local
audacious playback and skype (most annoying) too. Very often my sound repeats
with one fragment 10-20 times, then continue play in normal way
