Sorry about the tone, now that I re-read it it does indeed sound a bit
rude.
Regarding the issue, so my bad, caching is indeed done. It hadn't
occurred to me to look at the settings. Increasing the cache size fixed
all the issues described here, so I guess the bug report can be closed
as invalid.
Today I experienced very similar behaviour with not redrawing window with GIMP
program on Ubuntu 14.04.
After two restarts of GIMP it started to behave normally.

*REALLY* slow), but then I can't save them, etc., so I removed the rule.
Tried downloading the package, "untar"ing

Running virtualbox windows instance the sound is better, but not 100%
Also the sound is almost usable watching a youtube video, but switching

No, this is about a mass storage camera, not even the SD card taken out
from the camera and used through a card reader works.

thanks for the help, we have returned to 12.04.4, where we are currently
stuck on a juju bug. but we have maas running hopefully they should
have resolved this by the time we return to 14.4.. for the project must go
forward..

I have the problem on ASUS Eee PC 1000H.
In the problematic state xrandr shows no mode selected (I do not know what it

to increase brightness and back with ctrl+alt+f7
the brightness controls are non responsive

@daniel, thanks for that. I think even though there are fixes, its not
a simple procedure (especially for new ubuntu users) as some fixes work
for some people but not others.
@dogmatic do this in terminal:
Sudo gedit /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf
And add the line:
options snd-hda-intel vid=8086
