I have this issue aswell running Xubuntu 14.04 i've tried all the above
solutions, and it hasn't had any positive effects here. Transfering
files to my NAS using NFS is still slow and spiky.

can't find a script location that's actually executed on this OS.
/etc/pm/sleep.d and /usr/lib/pm-utils/sleep.d are just ignored, even if

I have found a different fix and work around for this.
change the 2 lines of each shortcut in ~/.config/openbox/lubunturc.xml
lxsession-default launcher_manager to lxsession-default launcher manager with the space and then it
works. Oh and run openbox --reconfigure to reload the configuration
