On my Ubuntu 14.04 setup I am definitely seeing an interaction between
using the spread function and whether windows maximize correctly or not.
However, it is slightly different from the OP.
It very often happens that a window shows the incorrect behaviour (i.e.
maximizing does NOT merge its menu

device now works (no error message in dmesg and appears as

Nvidia and the proprietary driver. I'm thinking this is really a

Steps to reproduze:
- dir (/home/user/text) with some files in it (e.g. 1.txt, 2.txt, 3.txt...)
- another dir with a new file (e.g. /home/user/download/3.txt)
- copy and overwrite /home/user/download/3.txt into /home/user/text/3.txt

Easiest way for me to reproduce is simply starting a qt program, then
taking offline the screen that had checkbox-gui running.

Cannot upgrade
I started a kernel bisect between v3.13 final and v3.14-rc1. The kernel
bisect will require testing of about 7-10 test kernels.
I built the first test kernel, up to the following commit:
365c483f190fea03971b3eca8d68406f425777b5
The test kernel can be downloaded from:
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~jsa
I was experiencing this simply by installing latest images and
installing ofono-phonesim-autostart. Then rebooting and trying to open
a click app in the shell.

I found the simplest workaround: switching off the HDMI sound card in
pavucontrol.
