just a shot in the dar, but do you by chance still have cgroup-lite
installed? If /sys/fs/cgroup/devices (etc) still exist, then that would
explain why you can still log in even if you're experiencing this bug.

I started noticing this after upgrading to 13.04. 13.10 and 14.04 also
have this issue for me. Not sure if that helps track down the bug.
Exiting mythfrontend and starting from the menu fixes it for me until
the next reboot.

updated trusty, but only when I use the Greybird-compact xfwm4 theme (or so it
seems). I replaced therefore all the left-*, right-*, bottom-* xpms of the
theme with those of the normal Greybird theme and didn't see striped

For the record, I also regularly get this crash. Yes, I do have cgroup-
lite installed, shouldn't I? /sys/fs/cgroup/devices/ does exist. Also,
I'm always able to log in, there is no noticeable brokenness except for
apport reporting this crash.

reading this bug I was convinced I had the same problem.
Booting with "nomodeset" in the boot options enabled unity to load with all
kernels.
I installed kernel 3.14.1-031401-generic _and_ fglrx and now I'm able to boot

I opened software-centre. I installed gimp. I then clicked Games>Arcade
and software-center hung.

Hello Chris I have ran the ubuntu-bug xorg and upload the report however I
don't know where it went or if it had any information to link it to this bug.
I have added two USB headset device IDs into my xorg.conf to ignore HID input
however I would really like to get the volume controls working.
