When I have one Firefox window, and in Firefox I press Ctrl + N to open
a new window, I expect that the number of white triangles to the left of
the Firefox icon changes from 1 to 2. What actually happens is that the
number of white triangles is still 1.

I have tried it in Firefox and Chrome with the same scrolling issues. I
then tried in Libre office to troubleshoot further and again it had

I ran dispcal from the terminal
dispcal -v -q l -t 6500 -H -P 0.5,0.5,0.8 display
and it got stuck at the message "The instrument can be removed from the
screen", so this is definitely an argyll issue.
