Same problem here with AverMedia A16AR (uses saa7134).
Had to remove the card. Before that, I tried to make the system identify the
card by creating a file in modprobe.d which contained "options saa7134 card=99"
but I could not get it to work.
Here is some output from dmesg during boot.

The warnings are because the minimal plugin does not use fontconfig but
falls back to another method, QTBUG-36243.

I have a notebook and at home and work I usually attach 2x 24"
screens... one by vga and one by hdmi.
However, if I start the notebook without external screens attached, the
screen just stays dark. I set it so that the notebook screen turns off
and only shows external screens

I burned the 14.04 image to disc and tried it out from there - touchpad
is not working. apport-collect is not part of the package and installing
it is not possible when trying out from disc. On the other hand, I
hesitate to upgrade my computer now to 14.04 pre-version as I am af
still a problem, please fix this.

This seems to be caused by the second QQmlEngine instance used in
creating the UbuntuColors and palette object for the Theme context
property. Transforming Theme and UbuntuColors into a proper singleton
type seems to solve the race.
