In /var/lib/dpkg/info/quota.postinst, in the "configure" case (line 126), quota
usage detection is weakly searched.
This is done so :
fs=`awk '/quota/ {print $2}' /etc/fstab`;
assuming the only presence of the word "quota" is meaning one wants to activate
quotas.

Matthew, sorry about the incomplete information. I forgot to mention
that I'm using gnome-panel and a gnome-flashback(ish) session (xmonad +
gnome). It's in that context that I'm using indicator-applet-complete.
It worked fine with saucy. Now, I had to add the notification-area
applet to gnome-pane
I can finally confirm that this kernel boots, and fixes the bug as the
cherry-picked patch intended to do (making wine run windows/arm binaries
properly).
(I still had to hack the .deb files to convert them from -armel to
-armhf, but I just changed the architecture name in the .deb control
file.)
Here's how the panel looks. See those icons that are really close
together? That's because they're being shown in the notification area.
The other icons (starting at indicator-keyboard) are being shown by
indicator-applet-complete.
