I had the nividia binary driver and it has things like "HAL autodetects
the screen" in X11/xorg.conf. My screen went to 640x480 and I tried to
install the nouveau drivers. I also tried to disable KMS with

I can't actually reproduce this on trusty. Can someone give me a recipe
to show that it's still failing? A simple "valgrind ls" on trusty/amd64
seems to work as expected here.

I can second what I mentioned elsewhere: This is *not* related to
nouveau. Nor is it related to Compiz effects.
I get these symptoms maybe 10-20 per day: Screen freezes. Music/sound
continues to work. Can move mouse but not click. Keyboard unresponsive.
After maybe 10s the system comes back up.

Also buggy in Linux Mint 15.
I had to use the
sh -c "sleep 0.07; gnome-screenshot -a"
workaround (70 ms is fine tuned to my machine).
