I was even able to boot that pre-existing Ubuntu GNOME install on sda1
after recovering grub, so just to recap:
I had a simple dual boot of Ubuntu GNOME and Lubuntu on a physical 80GB
drive.
I then used an Ubuntu GNOME 20131013 i386 image and chose "Erase disk
and install Ubuntu GNOME&qu

It's a known issue. I've added a Line Out profile upstream, it's not yet
in Ubuntu.
