As of 20130905.1, there are still denials for dconf files
(/run/user/32011/dconf/user, /home/phablet/.config/dconf/user), and for
trying to create the ~/.gstreamer-0.10 directory, but that's not
blocking playback apparently, so I hope it's fine.

Windows partition doesn't work: it can't find the bootloader, and I KNOW
grub can.

I followed the instructions for the amd64.
I created the directory ~/.compiz-1/plugins, copied the libcube.so file into it
and restart computer.
Don't forget to remove the vanvugt ppa (if you installed it) and update the
compiz packages to have the last version 0.9.7.12.

I have tried Doug's fix on my 12.04 install, but I am not experiencing
any improvement. I am pretty sure I followed the instructions
correctly, which were basically to extract libcube.so from compiz-
plugins_0.9.7.12-0ubuntu2+mc3man1.1~hack_amd64.deb from his ppa and
place it in ~/.compiz-1/plugin
Thanks for identifying the culprit, Til. Since the problem still exists
from 3.8.8 all the way through to current mainline (3.11), I think the
best course of action is for you to file a bug against DRM on
bugzilla.kernel.org, so that upstream can sort out how they want to
address it. We'll mirror
apt-get upgrade will correctly print out all the packages that will be
installed.
Currently (2013-09-05) it's kerberos libraries (libhcrypto4-heimdal et
al) that are not showing up in the update list.

the inability to change encoding settings from the GUI. But it doesn't
deal specifically with the problem that VBR headers aren't added to MP3.
