What I did is installing Lubuntu 13.10 (daily build of 4 July 2013) on a
Toshiba Satellite P100-275.
Exactly what I did:
1. Boot from USB (created with UNetbootin) with the daily build of 4 July 2013
2. Choose Install Lubuntu
3. Click Next
4. Check Install 3rd party software

Umm, with the shell fragment posted, you have the receiver started
outside the "while true" loop. Therefore the shell will never start the
receiver, and messages back up inside RabbitMQ until memory is
exhausted.
You can verify this with "rabbitmqctl list_queues" or the management
plugin web UI.
Since there is no actionable item, I am marking this bug as "Won't fix."

I have had the same problem and solved it for Ubuntu 12.04. There is an
askubuntu question on this specific graphics card. The Nouveau in 12.04
doesn't seem to work with the GTX 580. In 13.04, Nouveau _can_ boot and
lets you open a graphical terminal from where you can install nvidia-
current.

The sources will need libpng12 however for those have installed libpn
1.5 and up
