But I installed updates today and now my mic isn't working at all. I've
checked the alsamixer and unmuted everything and still nothing from the
mic. Any ideas? Is there anyway to reset my audio subsystem?

My apologies - when I saw you suggested the mainline kernel I had
assumed you were referencing the mainline 3.9 kernel, which was
something somebody suggested to me here on Launchpad with an unrelated
bug about a week ago. I did not realize this was the Saucy 3.10 kernel
that you were recommending.
Forgot to add in the above post, during the 3.10 kernel installation I
saw an error in the terminal output. I'm not sure how relevant it is
seeing as though I'm booted into the 3.10 kernel on 13.04 with seemingly
no issue, but before I rebooted I copied the terminal text into a text
file for some e

Hmmm, that's weird: I do not reproduce the bug anymore with LO 4.0.3. And it
works as expected with the current master (Version: 4.1.0.0.alpha1+

now I use XFCE instead of Gnome-shell. As a consequence I can't confirm

Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer

v3.10 kernel[0].

If the mainline kernel does not fix
When I opend the lid, the laptop appeared to be off. I pressed the power
button, and after a few seconds, a BIOS screen appeared stating that the
BIOS detected a high CPU temperature that resulted in a hibernation. The
BIOS said that it initiated the hibernate.
