I'll try to reproduce that event with today's daily build of Lubuntu
i386 desktop.
I didn't keep the picture, it was the default jpeg picture from the
webcam with my ugly face ;-)
I think the bug is still there, that the jpeg picture is not read by the
default picture viewer of Lubuntu

I had to update to the latest build from ppa, i have it working but ONLY
if shared folder is not selected, otherwise if shared folder is selected
i get SEGMENTATTION FAULT.
This is what i have, that is working with RDP without shared folders:
dpkg --list |grep remmina

Instead of patching apt, wouldn't it be easier to ship a script like do-
release-upgrade (eg. do-lts-upgrade --component=xorg --component=linux
--target=quantal) which does all the necessary magic? It could even do
something like
1. trigger package downloads only
2. force-remove the old packages

I also don't understand the reluctance to release 32 efi compatible
media. The 64 bit media are well tested, support traditional bios
hardware, efi only and efi legacy. Why would this be different for 32
bit. Leaving it with the (often non-expert) users to install it
themselves with several hooks a
PS . btw. ubuntu runs perfectly fine (though a bit slow) through the
emulator under windows 8 on my ACER W510. So I think there is no problem
with Ubuntu itself and these machines. It's indeed only the installation
support which is not up to par.

Th guvcview is still making bad jpeg files and good png files from the
webcam. I tried a lot, but could not reproduce the crash in Xorg. I
tried in the same computer both in a Lubuntu session and a Nexus 7
session running live from a USB drive (like I did when the crash
occurred).
