For me, (version 3.7.9) if I add "export CLUTTER_VBLANK=none" to
/etc/environment, it speeds up the animations considerably on my Radeon
4250 chip. Though there is still a slight persistent lag but it's

I experienced a permanent GPU lock-up today, the screen was unresponsive
for half an hour before I decided to reboot by pressing Alt+SysRq-
