What font name is display when right-clicking on these glyphs in the
Character Map (this shows which font they are really coming from). If I
select "Ubuntu" and then right-click on these glyphs it shows me that

Sorry for misunderstanding, I thought that question was about Ubuntu
installation. Openshot was installed from Ubuntu repos, not from usb
stick.
Anyway, I managed to solve the problem. It was because of melt/libmlt, I had
the same issue in kdenlive.

Yep, nvidia did some things on February 28th, though I have no good clue what
that was.

I guess this would only really effect development users as final
releases wouldn 't contain so many changes? So maybe a low priority,
although it should be handled better in an ideal world
