Woke up this morning to find no sound... and so I removed the dkms-hda
package and tried to install the newer
package(alsa-hda-dkms_0.201302111840~precise1_all.deb) and I get this error:

I now notice that Unity still does not work at full frame rate even when
it is first booted. The only time it will work without lag is if I

I have found if I restart compiz without the unityshell plugin, but
start all the other normal plugins, then the issue does not reproduce.
Still need to investigate this, but it may point to that Unity is doing
something here that is causing this issue.

Robert, I don't know how much of this is software and how much of it is
hardware (or maybe a combination of both) but consider this:

1. No, I am not using auto login.
2. Empathy is installed, but is not running, according to ps aux | grep empathy.
If I run Chat, then yes it prompts for keyring password immediately.
