I run Ubuntu 3.2.0-36-generic #57 and I may confirm that the issue is still
pending for me too.
If I don't unplug/replug the USB mouse, it's not recognized at boot and the
pointer is frozen.
Once replugged, I can see the device correctly.

based on the same virtual terminal widget used by gnome-terminal but doesn't

Ed, which version of mountall do you have installed here? By design,
mountall should notify the user of this mount failure via plymouth, but
as your sample fstab entries show mount points that are not required for
the OS to boot, they should not block the rest of the system from being
started. As
