I just checked suspend/hibernate and they are both broken. I'm not sure
if suspend/hibernate would work with Nouveau or any other driver on this

just means that we always call next() with exactly 128*1024, whereas

Attempted a reboot again after software install. This time no kernel
update, so no "nomodeset" at any time.
First, direct "Restart" attempt I got stuck at a purple screen. I
had to powercycle.

Yes this problem only occurs under Ubuntu, both Windows 7 & 8 do not have
the issue. It also happened after a certain update (
linux-image-3.5.0-10-generic or later, supposing this is a kernel-related
