Sorry to comment again, but I can confirm the same skype package works
in another 64 bit Ubuntu 12.19 computer that happens to have a lof ot
386 packages installed (because I installed wine that has lots of 386
dependencies). I can log in and log out of Skype using MS account with
no network errors
Those files are not really helpful. To investigate a segfault we need
the backtrace (stack trace), which you can produce by installing debug
symbols and using gdb if required; see the previous links I posted.

I am seeing this exact same issue after upgrading from 12.04 to 12.10.
Compiz and Xorg constantly uses about 5-20% even with little to no user
activity and no open windows. I have Nvidia on a Dell with a i7-2720QM

Just for another data point, I've had this bug occur several times (at least
I believe it's the same issue; in most cases the PC goes from running to just a
black screen, and restarts itself) on Ubuntu 12.10, most recently with 3.5.0-18
and the 310.19proprietary NVidia drivers and KDE
