Are you sure it is trying to write? Normally gui apps need to be able
to read ~/.Xauthority to work, and so if your home is on nfs and it is
root squashing, that should break all gui apps, unless you have the
XAUTHORITY variable pointing somewhere else?

Well, I don't think that language-selector-kde is used at all in Kubuntu
12.10. If it's going to be used going forward, that sentence should of
course be corrected, but otherwise this bug is invalid.

Thanks for testing and providing this information.
I see that CONFIG_LOCKUP_DETECTOR is enabled in Precise(12.04) and
Quantal(12.10) as well as Raring(13.04). Do you also see this bug on
those releases?
However, I do see that Raring is the only release that has
CONFIG_HARDLOCKUP_DETECTOR enabled
I can confirm the fix is working for the test case attached, and also
for the app that made me notice it in the first place.
@Luigi: the issues you're experiencing seem to be quite different of the
ones that motivated this report. I suggest filing a new one.
