I understand your meaning. So this may not be a bug, if this option is
not a setting stating "How long should history be retained" but on the
contrary "What should I erase right now ?"
I truly confused it with a setting.
Anyway, the meaning of this combo box is especially unclear,
I attempted to verify this, but following the steps in the description,
I was not able to verify the initial failure. Unfortunately, I don't
have time to dig into why either the steps aren't right or why it didn't
fail.

I can confirm this too, also disabling DRI in xorg.conf doesn't work

I also applied the "Consolidated path" from Andrew Flegg (aflegg) -
message from 2012-11-04.
But I get the same issue as laurent-mozon, I have an icon but:
- no message count
- nor integration in the message indicator applet.

I would recommend against doing that, the easier is probably to take the
source and rebuild it locally or throw it to a ppa targetted to quantal.
You might want to try to just download and dpkg -i
After the error, I applied the upgrade from the command line and it
finnished fine.
I did not need to install mythbuntu.
