So the problem was an hardware problem and not an Ubuntu problem for me.

GPU in both 12.04 and 12.10, the clock frequencies have been the same. I
am using a GeForce660m, which is supposed to have a graphics clock of
835mhz and a memory clock of 4000mhz. The nVidia power-miser set

above I have started the blender player with p and quit it with esc.

Touchpad not working on Acer Aspire One 7
Have you found a pdf file that actually opens with the version of xpdf
in Ubuntu 12.10? I haven't. Of course the same was true of the version
in Ubuntu 12.04, and Ubuntu 11.10. I forget how far back it was since
xpdf worked. This is ridiculous.

Regarding upstream kernel testing, can you please indicate a link to
where I find it? The link provided is for "Mainline kernels" and not
upstream ones.

I have the same issue after upgrading to quantal, the hp-check --fix
command installed some missing packages but didn't fix the problem.
