- the disk is Ms-Dos (not GPT)
- and Windows was installed in Legacy mode ( there is no EFI partition)
so Ubiquity should have installed grub-pc for sure.

Thanks Scott! I'm reopening this for the remaining issue that 8.4 isn't
running after the upgrade without a reboot, and the old init.d file is
still around. I already uploaded a fix for this last week, but I
reuploaded it now to not include the previous changelog entries any more
as these are in -u
I just tested with kernel in folder "v3.6.2-quantal" exact image is
"linux-image-3.6.2-030602-generic
3.6.2-030602.201210121823" and can't boot with this kernel too.

I can confirm, that the patch mentioned in #33 can be applied directly
to the source for kde-workspace in Kubuntu (4:4.9.2-0ubuntu2), the
packages can be compiled and installed, and in the resulting system this
regression seem to be gone.
