As I said before, Unity/Compiz look like the most possible reason other
than Kernel. In my case, I don't use the candy stuff from Compiz; my
daughter does and that's the most likely explanation as why I almost
never get the problem.
I downgraded both Ubuntus to the normal Kernel and, on top

Hello! THanks for taking the time to file a bug report and help us make
Ubuntu better.
None of these are Critical or even High priority fixes, and so, this
would be an inappropriate update for Ubuntu 10.04 at this time. If there
are individual bugs you'd like to see fixed we can backport those one

Installing the libreoffice metapackage won't change anything about the
individual packages I already have, will it? (i.e., it won't overwrite
the current installs of writer, calc, etc.?). I have to use those
everyday, and if something messes up it would cause me a big headache.

been committed to the Ubuntu repository.

pulseaudio daemon fails to start and there is no sound.
