This problem is not universally reproducible. I don't see any of these

First make sure you have all the updates installed and restart. Then if
you still have the bug, run ubuntu-bug gnome-shell and fill out the
form.
I'm closing this bug as the original bug reporter said the bug was fixed

I am also experiencing this bug. I think this may also be related to a
problem I am seeing with Ubuntu 12.04 running in Virtualbox (with an
Ubuntu 12.04 host) in that I cannot get the launcher to show at all in
Virtualbox unless I use Unity 2D.
For the record, my system is running Ubuntu 12.04 and

Update to comment #20: After re-booting my system, I am no longer
experiencing the problem with Virtualbox instances.
Still have to turn off autohide, however.

I do not have an Oneiric installation at hand. FWIW: I cannot reproduce
bug #883907 with the Oneiric xpdf in Precise. I use the Oneiric version
in Precise, since the Precise build of xpdf crashes when opening a file
(e.g. bug #992486).

Public bug reported:
After installing the 12.10 upgrade, Virtual Box running W XP has no
connection to the network. This is new, as the installation of 12.10
has correct access. VBox never had the problem. I think it may be
because of the new kernel 3.5.0-16 generic. It is also possible, that

Hi Jeremy, installing the latest updates didn't fix this issue for me
immediately. But now it works, perhaps a system reboot was required?
Thus it's seems to be fixed for me too, thanks.
